After a tooth extraction, the bone does not always heal completely. Although a solid bone plate forms on the outside, small areas inside may not ossify completely. These non-ossified, often fatty cavities are called cavitations. They are the result of the body’s natural but incomplete healing mechanism.

Altered bone regions can thus lead to implant failure. Visiogenics UG, a spin-off company from the University of Frankfurt headed by Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. Shahram Ghanaati, has developed a new visualisation method based on the analysis of DICOM data sets from digital volume tomography (DVT)<\/strong>. This technique allows irregular bone structures in the jaw to be precisely visualised \u2013 including their exact location and relationship to important neighbouring structures such as nerves or the maxillary sinus. This reveals what often remains hidden in conventional X-ray images. <\/p>

<\/p>

This modern visualisation method developed by Visiogenics UG provides experienced surgeons with the diagnostic basis for reliably identifying and specifically removing bone changes such as cavitations. These can sometimes cause silent inflammation that puts strain on the entire system. Precise DVT visualisation based on the concept developed by Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. Shahram Ghanaati is therefore an important step for oral and general health. <\/p>

Treatment of the bone irregularities made visible by this visualisation will soon be available at the Alpstein Clinic.
