Pharmacogenetics for personalized medication
What is pharmacogenetics?
Certain medications do not work the same way in all people and are tolerated differently. This can be partly due to genetic factors. In such situations, a genetic test can be helpful in selecting and dosing the medication. Genetic makeup can influence how the body responds to a particular medication, including its effectiveness, tolerable dosage, and the occurrence of side effects. Certain genetic variations can cause the body to break down a drug faster or slower. This can lead to over- or under-dosing, resulting in undesirable outcomes. Other genetic variations can cause severe side effects. In certain cases, genetic testing can prevent someone from receiving a drug that does not work properly or causes severe side effects.
Who is a pharmacogenetic test suitable for?
A pharmacogenetic analysis involves a simple blood test that offers you lifelong benefits. Your doctor can use your genetic information to determine exactly which medications are suitable for you and the dosage at which they work best. If you have been suffering from an illness for a long time or take medication regularly, a pharmacogenetic analysis can help you to tailor and optimize your treatment. This analysis is particularly useful for patients in the following situations:
- in case of adverse drug reactions
- in case of insufficient drug efficacy
- when taking several different medications
- in case of known genetic risk factors
- in people who take medication over a long period of time
How does the pharmacogenetic test work?
Our pharmacogenetic test is a simple blood test that only needs to be performed once. This test analyzes genetic variations, also known as SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms). These variations are quite common and affect over 90% of the population. They influence the activity of enzymes and thus determine your genetic phenotype. Depending on the type and number of variations, the processing of drug active ingredients can be faster or slower. Our test analyzes more than 65 variants to create your personal genetic profile. Since the pharmacogenetic profile does not change over the course of a lifetime, it is not necessary to repeat the test for each future prescription.
Advantages of pharmacogenetic testing?
- Tolerability: The right medication right from the start.
- Correct dosage: Ideal response to medication and targeted therapeutic success.
- Shorter response times: For a faster response to therapy
- Reduction of side effects caused by individual metabolization
- Reduction of undesirable drug interactions
- Better quality of life for patients

The first multiplex test in in vitro allergy diagnostics for a comprehensive IgE antibody profile.
Determining the actual causes of an allergic reaction may require multiple pieces of information. This is especially true when symptoms and medical history are contradictory, or when the patient is multisensitized or does not respond satisfactorily to treatment. In these puzzling cases, making the correct diagnosis can be both time-consuming and problematic.
The ImmunoCAP™ ISAC assay is a multiplex specific IgE test with allergen components that helps healthcare providers clarify puzzling allergies.
