FAQ Alpstein Medical
The Alpstein Clinic is a leader in biological integrative medicine. We combine proven, modern and alternative healing methods. Medicine and dentistry work together under one roof. At the Alpstein Clinic, we get to the bottom of complaints and don't just treat symptoms. We view the body as a unit and recognize the connections. Our 4-step concept is the heart of our therapeutic approach and the basis of our treatments to promote your health holistically and sustainably. Surrounded by the Alpstein mountains, Gais is an ideal retreat for regeneration and health.
Registering at the Alpstein Clinic is very simple. After you have submitted the online patient questionnaire on our website, we will ask you to send us your current medical documents (e.g. laboratory results, medical reports or dental panoramic x-rays). As soon as we have received all your medical documents, we will arrange an initial appointment with you by telephone. With local patients, as well as patients from abroad, we first conduct a virtual initial consultation to determine the next steps.
̈Unfortunately, basic insurance (KVG, TARMED tariff) only covers a comparatively small part of the costs for consultations and general examinations, as well as laboratory diagnostics. ̈We therefore mainly invoice viä the so-called "tariff 590" (supplementary insurance, VVG) and thus ultimately viä the private portion. The assumption of costs is regulated individually by each health insurance company. Experience has shown that foreign health insurance companies do not cover the treatment costs. We recommend that you contact your insurance company before your visit to find out to what extent your insurance will cover the costs. You are obliged to make advance payments to the Alpstein Clinic and may be reimbursed a portion of the costs by your health insurance after submitting the invoice.
It is important to us to keep your waiting time as short as possible. Once we have received your registration details via the online patient questionnaire, we will offer you an initial appointment as soon as possible, depending on the availability of the attending doctor, within five working days to three weeks at the latest. Our patients from abroad who require a partial inpatient stay should expect a waiting time of around two to six weeks after the video consultation until they arrive at the Alpstein Clinic.
During the initial consultation, your doctor will take a detailed medical history to understand your medical history and current symptoms. A basic examination will be performed, followed by a laboratory evaluation to assess your health and physical condition and determine the next steps.
We are happy to consult with your family doctor/physician or medical advisor. However, please bear in mind that most doctors of conventional medicine are not fully informed about Biological Integrative Medicine. We recommend that you contact a holistic doctor who can help you with the clinic protocols after your return.
It is helpful for our doctors to have up-to-date examination results. We therefore ask you to send us current laboratory test results, reports and imaging findings (such as ultrasound, CT, MRI, etc.) with the registration form or bring them with you to the first consultation at the latest. Please note that the Alpstein Clinic will also carry out in-house diagnostics.
The first stay at our clinic usually lasts around two to four weeks. Treatments take place from Monday to Friday. The clinic is closed at on weekends. The treatment-free weekend days offer time for relaxation or excursions.
For a follow-up stay, we often recommend intervals of three months to a year. You will determine the frequency of your treatments together with your attending physician towards the end of your stay. During the last week of your stay, your doctor will also discuss your follow-up protocol for home (medication plan, further treatments such as infusion therapy, dietary changes, lifestyle adjustments, etc.).
Our patients with a shorter journey often come to us for outpatient treatment on a few days after the initial consultation.
The treatment costs vary depending on the respective illness, the length of stay and the course of treatment. After the initial consultation, we provide partial in patients with a treatment proposal including the treatment program and the associated costs.
The treatment costs for our patients with Swiss health insurance are often not covered or only partially covered. For individual cost information, please complete the online registration form first. We will then be happy to contact you to clarify any questions you may have.
The Alpstein Clinic is an outpatient facility. Accordingly, our in patients stay in nearby accommodation in the region - including partner hotels and Airbnbs. We will be happy to help you find suitable accommodations for your stay. The accommodations we recommend all offer meals that comply with our dietary guidelines.
There are various transportation options available for a comfortable journey to the clinic. The Alpstein Clinic is only a three-minute walk from Gais railroad station (information on timetables and ticket costs can be found at www.sbb.ch ). The Alpstein Clinic has its own shuttle service. If you prefer a shuttle, car service or cab for transportation from Zurich Airport or St. Gallen railroad station, we will be happy to arrange this for you. If you would like to travel by rental car, there are numerous options available from various providers at Zurich Airport. Our shuttle is also available during your treatment stay; it operates on a flexible schedule and costs vary depending on the distance to the clinic. If you have any further questions regarding your transportation options, please do not hesitate to contact us.
The clinic is largely wheelchair-accessible. The Alpstein Clinic team is able to provide full support and care for patients who are moderately dependent on assistance. This means that patients can move independently between four different buildings on our campus from one appointment to the next. For patients who require additional support (especially outside the clinic), we recommend that they are accompanied by a caregiver during their stay. Please also note that there is no 24-hour care in your accommodation.
The weather in Switzerland, especially in mountainous Gais, can be very changeable, with snowfall in winter and very warm temperatures in summer. We therefore recommend that you dress in layers. It is advisable to pack comfortable clothes, as well as sports shoes and slippers for the hotel. In spring/summer we recommend bringing a light jacket and sun protection (headgear, sunglasses) and in winter a warm coat, hat and winter boots. If necessary, please do not forget to bring a charging adapter. There will be short waiting times between your appointments, so it is worth bringing appropriate equipment (reading material, music, etc.). Wi-Fi is available in the hotels and in the clinic.
