Staying mobile despite osteoarthritis –new approaches in biological medicine
Dear Patients,
Osteoarthritis is one of the most common causes of chronic pain and limited mobility. Its incidence increases significantly with age, but younger people can also be affected. For a long time, osteoarthritis was understood primarily as mechanical wear and tear. Today we know that, in addition to structural changes, inflammatory and metabolic processes also play an important role.
Biological medicine takes these interrelationships into account and supplements the classic orthopaedic approach with systemic aspects.
Osteoarthritis – an interplay of several factors
Osteoarthritis – an interplay of several factors
Osteoarthritis is characterised by the progressive degradation of joint cartilage and changes in the surrounding tissue. The imbalance between the processes of formation and degradation in the joint is crucial here.
Various factors can contribute to this development:
- Declining muscular stability due to lack of exercise
- Hormonal changes
- Metabolic changes
- Chronic, low-grade inflammatory processes
- Deficiencies in essential micronutrients
Osteoarthritis therefore not only affects the joint itself, but is often linked to general regulatory processes in the body.
Regeneration is possible – under the right conditions
Joint cartilage has only limited regenerative capacity. However, current findings show that tissue does have reparative potential. This requires stable metabolic conditions, an adequate supply of nutrients and as little inflammatory stress as possible.
This is precisely where a biologically integrative approach comes in. The aim is to create conditions that can support regenerative processes.
Holistic diagnostics as a basis
At the Alpstein Clinic, osteoarthritis is not just treated by focusing on the painful joint. An additional analysis of possible systemic factors is carried out to create an individual picture of the situation.
Depending on the findings, the following factors may be taken into account, among others:
- Mineral and trace element status
- Inflammation-related parameters
- Acid-base regulation
- Hormonal factors
- Intestinal health and possible intolerances
This differentiated approach enables targeted and individually tailored therapy planning.
Biological-integrative therapy approaches
Various procedures are combined based on the diagnosis. The aim is to regulate inflammatory processes, optimise tissue supply and stabilise joint function.
Depending on the individual situation, the following are used, among others:
Hyaluronic acid
Magnetic field therapy
Accompanying psychoenergetic procedures
These measures are carefully coordinated and embedded in a holistic treatment concept.
Aim of the treatment
The focus is not only on short-term pain reduction, but also on the long-term stabilisation of joint function. In many cases, a combination of differentiated diagnostics and regenerative therapy approaches can improve mobility, resilience and quality of life.
