Autoimmune diseases & multiple sclerosis
Autoimmune diseases are on the rise in Switzerland and are now the third most common form of illness after cardiovascular diseases and tumors. Of the 80 to 100 known autoimmune diseases, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a particularly complex disease that requires a holistic approach and therapy.
Understanding multiple sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis, also known as encephalomyelitis disseminata, is an organ-specific autoimmune disease. It leads to chronic inflammation of the central nervous system, brain and spinal cord. This inflammation attacks the myelin sheath, the protective covering of the nerve fibers. If this “insulating layer” is damaged, nerve impulses can no longer be transmitted without interference.
The consequences can be manifold:
- Restrictions in body motor skills
- Disorders of bodily sensations
- Visual disturbances
- States of exhaustion (fatigue)
- Depressive moods
- Bladder and bowel dysfunction
- Impairment of mental performance
Our holistic approach to therapy
At the Alpstein Clinic, we do not view MS in isolation, but as part of a complex process. Our many years of experience show that various factors can influence the course of the disease. We use state-of-the-art diagnostics to systematically investigate possible triggers and influencing factors:
- Viral infections (especially Epstein-Barr and herpes viruses)
- Bacterial infections
- Exposure to heavy metals
- Environmental toxins and xenohormones
- Genetic factors of detoxification
- Dental materials and chronic foci of inflammation
- Oxidative stress and mitochondrial function
Individual therapy concepts
Based on the examination results, we develop a personalized therapy concept. This may include the following treatments:
- Pain therapy with neural therapy
- Hyperthermia treatments
- Nutritional therapy
