Ceramic implants and Meridian®: material, surface and individual planning
Dear Patients,
Ceramic implants are an established alternative to titanium implants in modern implantology. From the perspective of biological dentistry, the focus is not solely on stable anchorage in the bone. The material, the response of the surrounding tissue, aesthetics and the long-term prosthetic restoration are equally important.
At the Alpstein Clinic, these aspects are considered together. This is why the Meridian® ceramic implant system from Steinsohn is specifically used for ceramic implantology.
Metal-free and aesthetic
Metal-free and aesthetic
Ceramic implants make it possible to provide treatment without metallic implant components. This may be of interest to patients who consciously wish to choose a metal-free implant, particularly if they already suffer from allergies or autoimmune diseases.
Ceramic also offers particular aesthetic possibilities. Its light, tooth-like colour can be advantageous, especially in the visible region. However, the harmonious interplay between the implant, gum tissue, bone and the subsequent crown remains crucial.
Considering the tissue and biological environment
An implant should integrate as harmoniously as possible into its biological environment. In biological dentistry, the mechanical function is therefore not the only consideration. Tissue compatibility and the condition of the bone and gum tissue are also included in the assessment.
Which form of healing is appropriate in each individual case depends on the initial clinical situation. No general recommendation can be derived from this.
At the heart of the Meridian® system: the Bioverit® surface
A distinctive feature of the Meridian® system is its Bioverit®-based bioactive glass-ceramic surface. It is designed to interact with bodily fluids at the interface between the implant and the bone, thereby helping to support favourable conditions for healing.
The development of the Bioverit® material concept dates back to the 1980s. Bioverit® materials were developed for applications in human medicine and have been used, among other areas, in reconstructive bone, jaw, facial and ENT surgery.
For the Alpstein Clinic, this combination of material development proven in medicine and modern implantology is particularly valuable. The implant material, surface and biological environment are considered together.
Stability from the outset
Biological properties alone are not enough. An implant must also function reliably from a mechanical perspective. Meridian® has a specially developed implant and thread geometry designed to support high primary stability.
Depending on the available bone and the individual’s initial situation, this may also allow modern treatment concepts such as immediate implant placement to be considered. Whether this is possible and appropriate is always decided on an individual basis. For the Alpstein Clinic, safety takes priority over speed.
Why the Alpstein Clinic deliberately chose Meridian®
Patients entrust the Alpstein Clinic with their health and quality of life. Materials and treatment concepts are therefore selected with great care.
Meridian® combines several properties that are important for ceramic implantology:
premium metal-free ceramic
a Bioverit®-based bioactive surface
implant and thread geometry designed for primary stability
a natural, tooth-like appearance
a biologically oriented treatment concept
a well-considered basis for the prosthetic restoration
This combination makes the system a distinctive option for the Alpstein Clinic. However, it does not replace a careful assessment of the individual’s initial situation.
Individual diagnostics as the basis
Before any implant treatment, the quality and volume of the bone, the condition of the gum tissue, functional aspects and the personal wishes of each patient are assessed, among other factors.
Only on this basis can it be determined whether a Meridian® ceramic implant is suitable and which treatment concept may be considered.
