Inside Alpstein Clinic – Alpstein Pharmacy Waldstatt Has Opened Its Doors

Dear Patients,

At the end of June, the new Alpstein Pharmacy opened in Waldstatt. Located approximately 20 kilometres from Alpstein Clinic, it is a place where modern pharmacy, complementary medical approaches and personal advice come together.

As an independent company within the Alpstein Health Group, the pharmacy shares a holistic view of health. The focus is on professional expertise, high-quality products and individual advice tailored to people’s needs. The pharmacy is rooted in the Appenzell region, yet its doors are open to people from all over Switzerland.

Despite hot summer temperatures, the response to the open day was very positive: between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., around 100 guests visited the new pharmacy, including many local residents from Waldstatt and the surrounding region. The personal encounters on site and the presentation of the future cleanroom were particularly well received. Through a corridor with viewing windows, visitors were already able to see how pharmaceutical production under controlled conditions will be possible here in the future.

A Successful Start  in Waldstatt

The naming competition also attracted great interest. The names “Appenzeller Apotheke”, “Alpstein Apotheke” and “Säntis Apotheke” were available for selection. As part of the competition, ten pharmacy vouchers worth 50 Swiss francs each were awarded. Lead pharmacist Sabine Hockenjos and Annette Heusser, Managing Director of Alpstein Pharmacy, provided insights into the new concept and jointly revealed the chosen name: Alpstein Apotheke. The first impressions show what this new health destination stands for: personal advice, modern pharmaceutical care, complementary medical approaches and a special atmosphere in a lovingly designed Art Nouveau pharmacy.

A New Health Destination  in the Appenzell Region

Alpstein Pharmacy is located in the heart of the Appenzell region and serves customers from Waldstatt, Herisau, Appenzell, St. Gallen and the entire surrounding area. At the same time, it offers a Switzerland-wide mail-order service for medicines, dietary supplements and other products. In this way, the pharmacy combines personal advice on site with care that is accessible beyond the region. Proximity, expertise and convenience go hand in hand here.

A Pharmacy  with History

The space itself tells a special story. For Alpstein Pharmacy, a long search was undertaken for suitable historic furnishings until, by a fortunate coincidence, an original Art Nouveau interior from another pharmacy was found. It was discovered in the barn of a former pharmaceutical representative who had collected old pharmacy interiors over many years. Before emigrating to South Africa, he wanted to part with part of this collection. At that time, the Art Nouveau interior was stored beneath a thick layer of dust, simply waiting to be brought back to life.

New Life in  Old Wood

The furnishings were acquired, carefully restored by a local company and installed in Waldstatt. The result is a shop space that combines pharmaceutical tradition, craftsmanship and modern care in a very special way. It is a place where value, history and pharmaceutical tradition become visible. The Art Nouveau pharmacy creates a special atmosphere for advice and personal encounters. It feels calm and personal, giving the impression that health is approached here with care and high standards.

Modern Pharmacy  with a Holistic Perspective

At the same time, Alpstein Pharmacy stands for modern pharmaceutical care. In addition to prescription and over-the-counter medicines, its services include expert advice, complementary medical approaches, dietary supplements and individual solutions for a wide range of health concerns.

The pharmacy therefore sees itself not merely as a place where medicines are dispensed, but as an advisory health destination. Patients receive support with questions about medicines, dietary supplements, their use, availability and possible complementary approaches.

Alpstein Pharmacy is expanding its pharmaceutical production capabilities. Looking ahead, an in-house sterile laboratory for the preparation of infusions is planned. This will enable the pharmacy to provide even more comprehensive support to doctors and therapists in the future and further expand its services in the field of specialised pharmaceutical care.
